How we can Help

Walsall mapThe Walsall Carers' Centre, part of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers', is a charitable company that brings together statutory and voluntary sector resources and expertise. Our aim is to provide real support to carers within the Borough of Walsall, and give their needs and their contributions the recognition and status they deserve. We can provide you with a 'listening ear,' someone to talk to who understands your emotional problems. Our experienced staff and support workers can help you overcome the feelings of isolation and stress, by introducing you to support groups, where you can meet people in a similar circumstances to your own.

In order to do this, we have several aims, and these include:

Providing advocacy and information for carers

leafletsIf you want to know your rights, need help finding out about support services, or want someone to act on your behalf, we aim to offer whatever assistance we can. We have a variety of leaflets, magazines, useful contacts and other information available to assist you in getting the services you may require. For instance, we can tell you about respite care, the benefits you may be entitled to, and what support services are available in your area.

Providing a help line for carers

If, for whatever reason you can't get to the centre, our staff will be pleased to deal with your query over the telephone. We also have a 24 hour emergency line for out of hours calls or at weekends and holidays.

Providing a town centre support group

the crossingAt our centre, at the Crossing at St. Paul's in Darwall Street, right next to the new bus station, you'll always find a friendly welcome, a place to meet friends or just someone with a sympathetic ear. You can pop in and meet the staff to discuss your needs in person, as the centre is open Monday to Friday, 9.00 till 4.30. Our office is on the first floor, but there is a lift close by, allowing full disability access. Details of the support groups and their activities can be found under 'support groups' on the left-hand side of the screen.

Providing an outreach service

Our outreach worker spends her time out in the community, visiting people in their own homes, in order to assess their needs, offer support, and help people keep in touch with others in similar circumstances. If, for whatever reason you are unable to visit us, we can arrange to see you at home to discuss any concerns you may have.

Providing a support facility for young carers

It is often overlooked by society at large that many young people provide an invaluable service by looking after older members of their own families, perhaps even a mum or a dad. We have not forgotten these youngsters, and try to ensure that they are given adequate support.
